A brief obit for Lettuce:
Lettuce (or Des Thomas, in the civilian world) was a retired Bournemouth antique
dealer who pitched up at a hash in the village of Akrounta on a motor bike
complete with daughter Beccy in tow. At this point he was 72, so this was abt
1992. (Akrounta being the next village to the villa where he lived). I still
remember it well - we were using the village football pitch as a run-site.
He enjoyed it, so came back, and kept coming, eventually taking over as Hash
Haberdasher for several years. Most runs would see his old Citroen "moke" with
t-shirts festooned all over it.
He enjoyed his hashing, and after Interhash in Cyprus, made it to KL, and also
to Goa - the last time I saw him. Old age was taking its toll a little, and he
was getting deafer and deafer - sometimes tactically so.
He died suddenly in Autumn 2003, and he is still sadly missed.
Cheers and On On
